ABSOLUTE BOX: A Self-Sufficient Emergency Structure

Uniquely Designed by Anna Rita Emili for altro_studio

The ABSOLUTE BOX is a small house post-disaster design that combines functionality and innovation to create a self-sufficient emergency structure. Inspired by the human body and the need for protection and integration with the surrounding environment, this design offers a unique solution for temporary housing.

This emergency structure is constructed using two structural steel frames that enclose a volume of plasterboard panels coated with high-resistance HDPE panels. The aluminium-coated frames keep the housing unit detached from the ground, preventing dampness issues. The envelope of the structure is white, but the cladding panels can be customized with different colors or patterns based on specific requirements.

The ABSOLUTE BOX features two glazed walls that open onto the bedroom and living room, allowing natural light to flood the interior. The design also prioritizes self-sufficiency, with a system of photovoltaic panels covering the unit's daily power requirement. Additionally, a 300-litre water tank ensures a water supply for at least three days. To optimize the interior climate, a heating coil system can be installed under the wood floor, providing comfort during both winter and summer.

This innovative design is not only functional but also flexible. The basic size of the unit is 6x2.5x2.5h, but it can be extended in both length and width to accommodate different needs. Whether used as temporary housing in post-disaster situations or as a compact living space for individuals or couples, the ABSOLUTE BOX offers a versatile solution.

Designed by Anna Rita Emili for altro_studio, the ABSOLUTE BOX exemplifies the perfect synthesis of science and art. Emili's inspiration comes from the study of various arts, including music, philosophy, literature, and the figurative arts. This interdisciplinary approach allows for a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and political aspects that shape our world.

The ABSOLUTE BOX was awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2014. This recognition highlights the design's outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. With its strong technical characteristics and remarkable level of excellence, the ABSOLUTE BOX introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

With its unique design and focus on self-sufficiency, the ABSOLUTE BOX offers a glimpse into the future of emergency housing. It is a testament to the power of design to address the challenges of our ever-changing world.
